A few weeks away from its release at the end of this month, Warner Bros. has released the “final” trailer for Dune. Most of the new footage comes in a way that expands on the scenes we’ve already seen: there’s longer cuts of Paul (Timothée Chalamet) talking about his dreams of Chani (Zendaya) with Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa), more than Duncan’s great battle scenes and, of course, ornithopters, ornithopters everywhere. But if there’s a recurring theme throughout this trailer, in particular, it’s about Paul realizing the dangers his father (Duke Leto, played by Oscar Isaac) and his family face when they come to rule the planet Arrakis. And the early stages of House Harkonnen’s war to demolish House Atreides.
This means that while we’re getting more snippets of conversation, most of this trailer is more about the film’s action in general: Ornithopter’s multiple chases, Duncan’s massive battle with Harkonnen’s forces, the massive confrontation between the Harkonnens, and captured Atreides’ forces. guarded by the sham of the former ruler of Arrakis, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård). There are even a few sandworms are seen in for good measure, as well as Paul’s famous “fear is the mind-killer” line.
Suffice it to say it’s a bit more of a typical movie trailer for Dune than what we’ve seen than any that came before, presenting it more as the big picture Denis Villeneuve would prefer you to go see in the big movies. screen than through the simultaneous streaming debut on HBO Max. However, given the first news, it looks like you’ll likely enjoy it no matter what options you take, when Dune hits theaters and HBO Max in the US on October 22.
