We hardly see extensive streaming services reveal their whole annual movie slate ahead of time, but Netflix has done just that with its fantastic lineup of original films coming to the platform in 2022.
There aren’t just a few new Netflix movies coming out, either. In a February press release, the company announced that it would release a new film every week until December 31 – a total of 71 planned titles at the time of the announcement.
We’ve compiled information on the most important of the bunch below, combining official synopses (as provided by Netflix) with any verified release dates, trailers, and promotional material to give you a clearer idea of what to expect in 2022.
The Adam Project
A time-traveling pilot (Ryan Reynolds) partners up with his younger self and his late father in this newest film from Free Guy filmmaker Shawn Levy to grips with his past while protecting the future (confused yet?). In addition to Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, and Zoe Saldana, the film stars Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, and Zoe Saldana.

Windfall
The film stars Lily Collins and Jesse Plemons as a young couple who arrive at their holiday house to discover hapless burglar Jason Segel has robbed it. We expect Windfall to play more like a psychological drama than its clever concept suggests, as Netflix pitches it as a “Hitchcockian thriller.”

The Gray Man
When the CIA’s most skilled mercenary – whose true identity is unknown – inadvertently reveals dark agency secrets, a psychopathic former colleague places a bounty on his life, triggering a global pursuit by international assassins. In this film, Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas star directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who has previously worked on Marvel films.

Knives Out 2
Daniel Craig reprises his role as Detective Benoit Blanc (this time in Greece) to unravel the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects in the sequel to Rian Johnson’s enormously popular crime thriller Knives Out. I’m hoping it’ll be a step up from Death on the Nile.

Day Shift
Jamie Foxx plays a hardworking, blue-collar dad who wants to provide a good life for his bright-eyed daughter. Still, his mundane pool cleaning job in the San Fernando Valley is just a front for his trustworthy source of income: hunting and killing vampires as part of an international vampire hunters’ union.

Enola Holmes 2
Enola Holmes (Milly Bobby Brown), now a detective-for-hire like her notorious brother, goes on her first official case to discover a missing girl, as the sparks of a sinister plot ignite a mystery that requires the help of friends – and Sherlock himself – to solve.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
Guillermo del Toro’s remake of Carlo Collodi’s classic fable of the wooden marionette is miraculously brought to life to soothe the heart of a bereaved woodcarver named Geppetto praised by critics. Pinocchio’s wayward and disobedient adventures in his quest for a place in the world are chronicled in this delightful stop-motion musical. It also has a spooky appearance.

The Mother
In this basic Netflix thriller, a ruthless female assassin (Jennifer Lopez) emerges from hiding to defend the daughter she abandoned years ago while fleeing dangerous men.
Lopez takes a break from showy rom-com in this film.

Me Time
This John Hamburg-directed comedy stars Kevin Hart, Mark Wahlberg, and Regina Hall as a stay-at-home parent who “finds himself with some ‘me time’ for the first time in years when his wife and kids are away.” So, what exactly does he do? He reunites with an old best buddy for a wild weekend that nearly turns his life upside down. This song has a definite Grown-Ups flavor to it.

Spiderhead
Two teenage criminals confront their pasts in an institution managed by a brilliant visionary who briefly experiments on inmates with emotion-altering medicines. Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller appear in this intriguing thriller based on George Saunders’ New Yorker story Escape From Spiderhead.

Slumberland
A young girl discovers a hidden map of Slumberland’s dream world, and with the help of an eccentric outlaw (Jason Momoa), she travels through dreams and nightmares in the hopes of seeing her late father again. It appears to be a sweet family adventure.

We Have a Ghost
This creepy family adventure starring Anthony Mackie and David Harbour is directed by Christopher Landon, who also directed Happy Death Day. Kevin and his family become overnight social media sensations after discovering Ernest’s ghost haunting their new home. However, when Kevin and Ernest go rogue to uncover Ernest’s past’s mystery, the family becomes a CIA target.

The Mothership
Sara Morse (Halle Berry) is one year after her husband (Omari Hardwick) inexplicably vanishes from their rural farm in The Mothership, a sci-fi thriller. Sara and her children go on a race to find their husband, father, and, most importantly, the truth after discovering a weird, extraterrestrial item beneath their home. It has a foreboding tone to it.

Carter
Agent Carter (no, not that one) is forced into an explosive assignment full of unsolvable problems while suffering from memory loss. This pursuit thriller, directed by renowned action film director Jung Byung-Gil and starring Joo Won, has all the makings of a good time.

Hustle
A down-on-his-luck basketball scout (Adam Sandler) discovers a once-in-a-lifetime athlete with a troubled past abroad and takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to the United States without his team’s approval. They have one more chance to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA, despite the odds. We have a feeling they’ll be able to pull it off.

The School for Good and Evil
The best of friends When Sophie and Agatha are carried away into an enchanting school where young heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance of good and evil, they find themselves on opposing sides of a modern fairy tale. This film stars Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, and Laurence Fishburne and is based on the bestselling novel series by Soman Chainani.

The Good Nurse
In this thrilling thriller based on actual events, a nurse suspects her colleague of being responsible for a string of inexplicable patient fatalities and risks her own life to find out the truth (as documented in the book by Charles Graeber). Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain headline the cast in this prequel to The Good Doctor (that’s a joke).

Brenda, recently widowed, travels with her family across the nation to start a new life after losing her job. They must learn to fight back as they become the targets of a strange killer in the New Mexico desert, cut off from aid. This film stars Queen Latifah and Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges.

Wendell & Wild
Wendell & Wild is an animated film directed by Henry Selick and Jordan Peel about two plotting demon brothers, Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele), who seek the help of a tough youngster to summon them to the Land of the Living. According to Netflix, this one is “an animated fantasy that defies the rules of life and death,” which has us excited to discover more.

You People
In this comedy from Kenya Barris, a new couple and their families find themselves evaluating modern love and family relationships amidst competing cultures, cultural expectations, and generational gaps. The film stars Jonah Hill (a producer), Eddie Murphy, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The Sea Beast
Monster hunters were famous heroes in an era when fearsome animals ruled the waters, and none was more adored than the great Jacob Holland. However, when Maisie Brumble stows away on his legendary ship, he finds himself with an unexpected ally. They set off on an adventurous expedition into uncharted waters, making history in the process. This animated adventure is directed by Oscar winner Chris Williams (Moana, Big Hero Six).

The Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical is adapted into a film. Spaceman
When an astronaut sent to the far reaches of the galaxy to collect enigmatic ancient dust discovers that his earthly existence is breaking apart, he goes to the only person who can help him put it back together. It just so happens to belong to an ancient beast that lurks in the shadows of his ship. The fact that it stars Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan, and Paul Dano intrigues us more than the plot does.
