Some consumers have said that the mid-November update on their Pixel phones improves fingerprint scanning. Some other Twitter users have reported it as well. However, several users have reported that the fingerprint scanner has not changed significantly since the update was installed.
Is Your Pixel 6 Phone Eligible for The Update?
Go to Settings > System > System update on your Pixel 6 or 6 Pro to see if the update is available. The Android Developers portal also has the factory images and OTA images for the update.
Many consumers noted that the fingerprint reader on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro was problematic immediately after the phones were released. The in-display fingerprint sensor has been observed to take longer to unlock in some situations, while others have stated that it can unlock the smartphone even with unregistered fingerprints.
It is presently unknown whether the latest update resolves any of the previously reported issues with the Pixel 6 series’ fingerprint scanner. Given the nature of the concerns, which include the ability to unlock the phone using unregistered fingerprints, Google may already have a solution in place.
Google usually doesn’t update its Pixel phones in the middle of the month. The normal November update for the Pixel family was also just seeded, which fixed certain known issues and rectified security vulnerabilities.
