The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will take place from 17 October to 15 November in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The qualifying phase of the tournament will run from October 17 to October 22. And the Super12 phase from October 23.
A total of 8 teams have qualified for the tournament based on the ICC T20I team rankings as of 20 March 2021. 4 teams will enter the Super12 stage through the ICC T20 2021 World Cup qualification.
The 8 teams that have passed are divided into two groups of 4 teams each. They will be followed by two teams from each group.
The format of the competition
This year’s T20 Men’s World Cup kicks off in three phases.
The first round will feature two groups of four teams in a round-robin tournament. The two best teams from each group advance to the Super 12. Each of the groups in the first round consists of three teams from the 2019 qualifier. And one of the two automatic qualifiers – Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Top team Group A and second team Group B enter Group 1 Super 12. And the top team Group B and second team Group A entering Group 2.
The Super 12 phase sees two groups of six play round robin with the top two teams in each group advancing to the knockout phase. The knockout phase consists of two semi-finals and one final.
